Summary

“Nothing like it for miles” – a “fine dining” country inn, where chef/patron James Duckett turns out “very accomplished” food that’s “brimming with flavour”, both from the “short à la carte” and “very accomplished” tasting menu. “Friends from the smoke are slightly disbelieving that we have such a high standard on our doorstep!”

Owner's description

The Samuel Fox is an AA five star country inn with an emphasis on good food. It features in the Michelin Guide; Good Food Guide; and the AA Restaurant guide, where it is awarded two Rosettes.

Since October 2012 the Samuel Fox has been in the ownership of award winning chef James Duckett, whose assured cooking benefits from many years experience in the kitchens of Michelin starred fine dining restaurants in the UK and internationally. He serves modern European and British cuisine, including some pub classics, prepared using the finest of fresh local produce. Whether you opt for his seven course tasting menu with optional wine flight or, at the other extreme, choose a blackboard special at the bar, your taste buds will be in for a treat!

The linked restaurant and bar areas are tastefully decorated in contemporary style, lead onto a south facing terrace and offer fine views over the glorious local landscape. In the bar there are always two local real ales on tap and 14 of the 40 wines stocked are available by the glass.

The Inn has four tastefully appointed en-suite rooms and its location makes it an ideal base for exploring Derbyshire's Peak District National Park. Whether for weekend breaks; Christmas and New Year packages; longer holidays; or just excellent food, wine and real ales; a warm welcome awaits you.
