This “tight-for-space all-day beachside café gets it right for its market, so is usually full of contented customers” consuming “massive portions of fish ’n’ chips” and other “really good simple food”. It’s a “lovely location, with lovely atmosphere” and views across to the Isle of Wight – and “the prices are great”.

“Great fun with good food” – Billy’s could be described as “the platonic ideal of a British beachside café. Wide menu, some interesting dishes, fresh seafood and child & dog friendly. Sit outside when it’s sunny and not too windy, and life feels better”. There are also “great views of the Isle of Wight”.

A candy-striped shack in a “super spot right on the beach” at Bracklesham Bay, with “a good selection of food plus wine & beer”“with a strong emphasis as you’d expect on seafood”. Facing southwest, the bay is a perfect place to watch sunsets and kite-surfers.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Rather noisy and a bit ramshackle. Toilets seem to be the public ones on the beach (not ideal). Probably best enjoyed on a lovely lazy summer's day - sadly it wasn't when we were there."
