A central wood installation of a tree helps add validity to the name of this seaside hotel dining room. Chef Andy Hilton produces a relatively upmarket brasserie menu framed around ‘bay, barn and butcher’ and results are consistently well-rated.

This all-day and affordable hotel restaurant was nominated by numerous reporters last year as a favourite destination in the area. In particular, it’s a champion of sustainability, with an emphasis on local, organic, fairtrade and farm assured produce.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Have you eaten at Arbor Restaurant, The Green House Hotel?

Owner's description

Serious food in a chilled-out setting, without pretence or the price-tag, offering guilt-free dining.

You’ll find well-cooked, honest, uncomplicated but imaginative food, with a huge emphasis on locally sourced produce. We’re lucky: nearby we have England’s garden counties — Dorset — or ‘Daarrset’ as we say it, Hampshire and Wiltshire — from where we get daily deliveries of the best meat, vegetables and dairy products. Being on the south coast, we also get the pick of the country’s fish and shellfish. We love our artisan suppliers and get a buzz out of finding new specialist providers to work with.

What else will you find at Arbor restaurant? Unfussy, knowledgeable service from staff who actually love food and love looking after people. Modern, informal interiors and atmosphere, where we want you to be able to kick back, relax over a nice glass of wine (or two!) and enjoy our de-poshified fine food. And a cosy bar where you can chill in comfort after an unhurried meal. We also host events such as weddings and private dinners at Arbor restaurant, so please let us know if we can help plan and deliver the party of your dreams.

The best thing is that you can enjoy all this with a clear conscience; the Green House was developed on sustainable principles — from the building materials, the energy systems and even the bee hives on the roof! Arbor restaurant continues this proud tradition and ensures that dining here won’t cost the Earth. We’re careful with our food miles and try and use as much organic, Fairtrade and farm assured produce as possible, working closely with suppliers who stake their family name on their quality. Because we’d like you to come back, we also price our menu as keenly as possible.

So, we hope you like Arbor restaurant and are as excited as we are. We look forward to seeing you soon, and in the meantime, tell us what you think and if you’ve got any questions, just ask….

The team at Arbor

P.S. Why ‘Arbor’ restaurant? Well, it’s Latin for tree, reflecting our roots, our strong eco attitudes and our love of the countryside.
