Summary
“If you fancy a change from normal dining”, you should “save up and go” to chef Will Devlin’s Grade II-listed clapboard former coaching inn, to sample his “extraordinary food and charming hosting all round” – it’s a “wonderful little restaurant that cooks locally sourced ingredients and mixes them up in interesting and innovative flavour combinations”. Will took the place over in 2020, and grows much of the produce himself on the grounds of his other highly rated restaurant, the Small Holding at nearby Kilndown. BREAKING NEWS: In early November 2022, the closure of the restaurnt was announced.

“The Curlew sat empty for far too long….The Small Holding, Kilndown team led by Will Devlin have taken it over and introduced a sharing menu (who hasn’t!)” and it's “such a pleasure to be back there”. Its “innovative” and “fantastic” food “encourages experimentation in terms of flavour combinations”, with much produce sourced from Devlin’s first acclaimed venture, located just eight miles away.
