By day, Michael Etherington’s hardworking venue is “difficult to beat” for its “smashed avocado on sourdough bread” and other café-style bites, and on Wednesday to Saturday evenings it doubles up as a bar serving a neat little menu of “just great tapas” and other Spanish/North African small plates, “informally served”.

Chef-owner Michael Etherington’s “relaxed and good-value” operation has a double identity – by day, it’s a café serving breakfast, brunch and toasties, but on Wednesday to Saturday nights it looks south to serve “great tapas” and other Spanish/Moroccan dishes.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
